The research of Mark L. Wieland, M.D., M.P.H., focuses on community- and clinic-based strategies to promote health equity. In community settings, Dr. Wieland works with community and academic partners through community-based participatory research to address health promotion and disparities in the management of chronic disease. Community-based participatory research is an approach in which the target population is involved in every stage of the research process. In clinical settings, Dr. Wieland works with colleagues to develop systems of care to reduce practice-based health disparities.
