Robert Brook attended Michigan State University for undergraduate education (BS, 1991) and the University of Michigan for medical school (MD, 1995). He completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (American Board of Internal Medicine certified since: 1998) and fellowship research and clinical training in Hypertension/Hyperlipidemia and Vascular Medicine at the University of Michigan (1999).
Dr. Brook is a physician-scientist with long standing clinical expertise in cardiovascular disease prevention focusing on hypertension, orthostatic syndromes, lipid disorders, risk assessment, and vascular medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, the National Lipid Association, and the Society for Vascular Medicine. He has extensive research experience with a history of over 35 extramurally-funded grants and more than 250 peer-reviewed publications. His main research theme is “environmental cardiology” – understanding the adverse cardiometabolic health effects of environmental exposures and air pollutants. He served as the Chairperson of 3 American Heart Association scientific statements on air pollution as well on alternative approaches for blood pressure-lowering. He is currently the Executive Director of Cardiovascular Prevention and Wellness for Wayne Health and is a key member of the Center for Population Health Accountability (400 Mack Ave. 2nd floor; Detroit MI 48201). The overarching mission is to establish a comprehensive program employing multi-faceted strategies to improve blood pressure and risk factor control in Detroit that will ultimately reduce the heavy public health toll of cardiometabolic diseases.
