About the Speaker
Alex Dubov, PhD, is an Associate Professor at Loma Linda University School of Behavioral Health. His research includes studying patient preferences to improve the design and implementation of HIV prevention programs. Currently, Dr. Dubov leads studies to increase the uptake of PrEP in coordination with substance use treatment in emergency departments and community pharmacies.
Summary
This presentation will share implementation data from an NACDS Foundation-sponsored project supporting 16 independent and chain community pharmacies in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties in establishing pharmacist-initiated PrEP programs. It will highlight early results, including barriers and strategies to overcome them, along with insights from 30 in-depth interviews exploring pharmacists' perspectives on initiating PrEP. Findings from 300 online surveys completed by California pharmacists will further illuminate statewide perceptions and support for pharmacy-based PrEP delivery.
About INSIGHTS (Innovative Non-traditional healthcare Settings in HIV research lecture Series):
The purpose of this lecture series is to provide the community of HIV researchers with space and time to hear about innovative research conducted outside of traditional healthcare settings. This research includes any HIV-related interventions that can be applied to HIV research, including those that are conducted outside of the clinic (e.g., pharmacy, patients’ homes, CBO, mobile vans unrelated to the clinic, outdoors), can increase access to medications without involving clinics, or can enhance PrEP or ART adherence and persistence without clinic input.
This lecture series is funded by a UCSF CFAR Boost award.
